Vicky Valentine’s Erotic Adventures: 12 Days of Christmas (Prequel) (Sample)

“Hey, Doug Parker. How’s it hanging?” I say as I plop down next to the handsome off-duty detective. Doug is a regular at Private Dancer, the strip club I’ve danced at for the last six months. I flirt with him regularly, so I look forward to his afternoon visits.

I motion to Toni the bartender. She slides an orange juice across the bar to my waiting hand. I signal to her. She nods back with her tomboy good looks. I take a sip from the juice and turn back to the tall cop. I study him as he ignores me.

I nudge his shoulder to get his attention. His dark hair glints in the light as he turns and says, “What? Sorry, I wasn’t listening.”

I frown. Using fake sign language along with my voice, I repeat, “How’s… It… Hanging? Constable… Doug?”

He shakes his head in exasperation. The handsome man sighs and says, “Why do you always call me that? And what’s with the sign language?”

I shrug. “Sorry, Sergeant Rock. I think it’s funny.” And besides, it’s fun to flirt with you.

He nods and says, “Well, to be honest, I’m not so good.”

I frown again and ask, “Why? What’s going on, babe?”

His partner, Martinez, slides a newspaper across the bar. It stops an inch from my glass. I read the headline: ANOTHER STRIPPER FOUND DEAD!

My eyes widen. I peruse a few paragraphs from the article until Martinez interrupts my reading. He says, “The bastard got another one yesterday. That’s four so far since Christmas. Mandy and Raven from Cherry Jubilee’s and Jennifer and Fortuna from the Bush Company Bar.”

Doug mutters, “Four too many.”

I glance back at the paper and whisper, “Jesus, Doug. Why would anybody want to kill strippers?”

He shakes his head and answers, “Vic, why does anyone do anything? People do bad things and this guy…” He trails off shaking his head in disgust.

Disbelief overcomes me as I realize the stakes. I say, “You don’t think—”

“He’ll hit your club next?” Martinez interrupts.

I nod. They both shrug their shoulders. Doug stands tall and handsome with dark hair and eyes. Martinez carries a potbelly and his thinning hair combs to the side of his tan head. They come by most afternoons before we open; it’s a ritual. They meet a few other cops for a beer. Having them around makes us feel safe, but now I’m not so sure.

I scan the club. It’s early afternoon. No other customers yet. A few bouncers sit at the other end of the bar and a couple dancers chat at a back table. The shift doesn’t start for another hour and the entertainment doesn’t ramp up until at least nine. Today, the place exudes solemnity.

I return to the article. A few more paragraphs down a facsimile of a scrawled note from the killer covers half the page. I mouth the words silently as I read:

~ Twelve Days of Christmas

Happy Holidays from M. E.

The last one was delicious. Another peach. I choked her until she popped and then separated her to make her easy to carry. I hope you like my gifts.

Season’s Greetings,

The Striptease Strangler (H. H.) Ha Ha

P.S. I’ll take another. One each day until Twelvetide finishes.
